THE CAMBRIA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

PURPOSE:

The Society will endeavor to educate Cambria residents and visitors about the need for the preservation of the cultural resources of Cambria and its surrounding area, and to recount the area's history for the purpose of broadening the understanding and deepening the appreciation of the community.

GOALS:

The goals of the Society are:

1. Identify and take inventory of the area's cultural resources.

2. Collect, preserve and display historic records, documents and materials.

3. Establish and maintain museum facilities and organize certain public events to educate the general public about the cultural resources of the Cambria area.

4. Contribute to the well-being of the Cambria community

HISTORY OF CHS:

Articles of Incorporation for CHS were filed with the California Secretary of State on January 29, 1990 by Joan Broadhurst acting as its attorney. Later that same year, the Articles were amended by Ken Cooper, President and Wilfred Lyons, Secretary. The first set of bylaws was dated March 15, 1990 and was also signed by Wilfred Lyons.

Wilfred and his wife, Hazel, were issued the very first membership. Some other people who were early members are: Bill and Shirley Bianchi, Vernon and Althea Soto, Walter and Florence Warren, Suzy and Angela Ficker, Jim and Olga Buckley, and George Keenan. (more)
